Love Where We Live on October 31

  • Your Neighborhood (map)

We encourage members of FBCOP to love where we live on October 31 by intentionally and strategically using the day to meet neighbors, serve them, and either begin or grow relationships. People matter and this day provides an opportunity to show love to neighbor and to begin or continue gospel conversations with them. So, there is no event on the church property this evening, but there will be many events with the church as our family members are “being the church” where they live.

HOW TO LOVE WHERE WE LIVE ON OCTOBER 31…

  1. Pray for those in your neighborhood. Pray for new relationships and for existing ones to grow.

  2. Be intentional. Be real. Be the neighbor others want.

  3. Don’t let Halloween be the only time you engage with your neighbors intentionally. Be prepared to have gospel conversations.

PLEASE DON’T…

  • Turn off your porch light as a protest to the holiday.

  • Hand out Bible tracts instead of candy.

  • Hand out candy alternatives (toothbrush, fruit, healthy snacks.) Let parents determine.

  • Scare children or prank people as they come to your house.

SOME IDEAS…

  • Provide bottled water, soft drinks, or hot chocolate to parents.

  • If you live on cul-de-sac, work with your neighbors to provide a group event.

  • Create a photo booth. Don’t take pics on your phone, but provide a “selfie booth.”

  • Carpool with neighbors to places that are providing large events.

  • Give out glowsticks or glow-in-the dark necklaces in addition to candy.

  • Give out the good candy. Ask a kid.

AFTERWARD…

  • HELP CLEAN UP - You may have that neighbor who goes all out with decorations. Offer to help with the clean up or taking down of the items.

  • BE A FRIEND - You may meet neighbors you have lived near for a while. Learn their names and seek ways to serve them. Love your neighbors, but not as a project. Live out your faith.
